Enter the virtual reality It is not something simple and that everyone can afford. The money that is needed to invest to have to acquire the devices and a powerful computer, in addition to the space that is required to use these devices, are undoubtedly aspects to take into account and that can be thrown back by more than one.
Luckily there are also alternatives such as Zero Latency, a virtual reality experience adapted for all types of audiences and that has been expanding over the last few years with more games and a technology that has been further refined. In fact, the next video game to join its catalog will be Undead Arena VR and we we have already tested it exclusively.
A few years ago we talked to you about Singularity, in which we enter a spaceship with robots, narrow corridors and even a final boss. However, here the proposal is completely different in having to face waves of the wildest zombies and in which we already anticipate that the moments to relax are practically conspicuous by their absence.
Putting safety first in times of Covid
Before going on to talk about what feelings this new title left us, we must bear in mind that it is an experience in which up to eight people can get together at the same time, something that is ideal because it is always more fun to hang out with friends and family, although in the case of being few it is possible that they can join you with other groups of people in the event that all the sessions are full.
Perhaps years ago this did not pose any notable problem, but today, with the coronavirus so present in our lives, it is something that cannot be overlooked. Those responsible for Zero Latency are very clear about it and that is why in all insurance, safety prevails so that anyone can go without taking risks that make them fear for their health or getting infected.
For this reason, apart from necessarily wearing a mask at all times, as soon as we enter we have a hydroalcoholic gel waiting for us at the door to put it on our hands together with a device that measures our temperature. As for the equipment, consisting of a backpack, headphones, a gun and the corresponding virtual reality glasses, cleans from top to bottom after each session as they are components that everyone who participates uses.
Once entering the task, the entire game takes place in an enclosed area of 200 m2 that at the moment becomes a virtual world when putting on your glasses. Depending on the game chosen, you will move through some areas or others of the room, since one of the aspects that make this experience so special is the fact that each one moves on their own without having to depend on controls or cables. counting with total freedom for it.
Previously, whenever another player approached your position, it would appear a warning on the screen with an alarm to warn you that you had someone nearby, in order to avoid impacts or blows with the weapon when turning. For this reason, in order that there is more distance between one and the other following the established rules, the radar has been extended so that now the warning will be activated earlier than normal.
Therefore, it is appreciated that the company takes into account all these details and takes the appropriate measures so that nobody is in danger and incidentally ensure the safety of all attendees.
Participating in a show with zombies to give and take
Moving on to talk about our impressions of Undead Arena VR, players take on the role of survivors in a post-apocalyptic future where zombies are everywhere. Television has not come up with anything other than to produce a reality show in which Participants fully immerse themselves in a show in which they must kill all the undead that are found to become millionaire stars or else they will die in a terrible way and join the horde.
Although the capacity is for eight players, in my case I was alone at all times, which made me doubt if I would be able to end the waves of zombies that do not stop emerging from all parts of the stage. So that it is not an impossible challenge, the difficulty of the game is adjusted based on the number of people there, so that it is balanced at all times. That does not mean that of the two games that I played, in the first one I passed them hard.
Basically the stage has several doors from which the zombies come out. Everywhere there are barricades with which you can cover yourself and they slow down somewhat, but what stands out the most are the explosive barrels that you can blow up with a few shots or the fire traps
I have to admit that in my first game I paid dearly because I considered that the best option was to stay in the center of the room and from there to be able to see better where the zombies were coming from. However, in the end he ends up dying more than once because they ended up surrounding me because I was not enough. Instead, the second time the tables turned considerably, because this time I chose to be in constant motion everywhere.
This allowed me to flee from the zombies if I saw that they were getting too close and thus have time to react and also to look at other traps or make it easier for me to hit the explosive barrels, because you can be sure that the use of these elements tips the balance quite in our favor. You just have to take a look at the scores I did the first and second time.
And is that actually the real objective of this game is annihilate zombies non-stop to get points, because you have infinite lives, so it is a competition between all the players to see who is the best of all. In other circumstances, what the game does is leave you unable to act for ten seconds if you are eliminated and then return to action with life to the fullest. Instead, playing alone what happens is that the zombies were paralyzed and that gave me time to get into a better position and run away from them if they had put me on the ropes.
Regarding the pistol that is used, with infinite ammunition, it has three different types of shots: a submachine gun, a shotgun and a crossbow. Each one has its own recharge time and damage, so depending on the situation, one or the other is better. In any case, the zombies are not that they hold too long because hitting them in the head, in addition to giving more points, will make them mince almost always the first time, except those who wear armor, in which case you have to snatch it from them first.
Something that also struck me as amazing was the stage design. Beyond what has been said above, especially due to the fact that the immersion is amazing from the first second and you forget that you are actually in a large and empty room. I also loved the fact that after overcoming several waves you have to go to another area on a higher level with ramps and platforms that move, which is the most curious to see how you move alone or go up and down when your body is really still or just moving in a straight line.
Just in case, it is important to emphasize that as much as the enemies are zombies, this is not a scary game at all. Even the most apprehensive may be more impressed by seeing them so close, especially when they hit you and a few get together, but this is not about scares or anything like that. It’s a straightforward action game in which the only thing we’ll do is shoot like there’s no tomorrow.
