2025 is still scheduled the successor to what is currently probably the best building game appear. With Anno 117: Pax Romana, the series is finally being continued after six years and we have already learned a lot about the game. Nevertheless, Ubisoft continues to hold back on a lot of concrete information.

For example, there was still no gameplay to see, not even actual screenshots from the game. Only artwork and concept drawings were shown. But we now know at least one quest that will definitely happen – and which could reveal a few details about the game.

What the quest reveals about the game

The quest competition was launched by Ubisoft on September 3rd, The winner was announced on November 7th. Before that, there was a series of quests selected by the team and voted on by the community.

The winner of the competition is a task called Weapons from the stars. You can read the whole quest now. The quest comes from the user Nathanael and goes something like this:

  • A blacksmith wants meteor iron to forge a special weapon.
  • To do this, we are looking for a diving specialist at the harbor who will collect the fragments of a meteorite in the sea.
  • We look for the fragments in three places, and in one the diver finds a large piece of metal.
  • An elevator is needed to retrieve the chunk. For this we produce flax and wood.
  • The specialist recovers the chunk and we bring everything back to the port.
  • As a reward, the blacksmith gives us the sword, perhaps for the museum.

Aside from the fact that this is the first confirmed quest in Anno 117, we now also know that quests are strongly based on the tasks from Anno 1800 – which makes sense here, after all the fans are based on what is familiar.

We search hidden objects, we ship resources and so on. What’s also exciting is that the sword and the specialist indicate the return of items.

Of course, the task came from a fan and Ubisoft may make a few changes to it. However, the team made a pre-selection and apparently they think the quest is feasible. That could even suggest a kind of museum again.

Items were massively expanded in Anno 1800 and the feature was not entirely without controversy. Some fans didn’t like the endless search for the items. But mainly in the early stages. After many patches, items were continually optimized and, above all, increasingly decoupled from chance. Therefore, items in Anno 117 with these experience values could fascinate many more people right from the start.

A few more information

Since we have many Anno fans in the community, including ourselves, we often go on treasure hunts and try to dig up as many concrete details about Anno 117 as possible. That’s why we’d like to point out a few more interesting pieces of information here: as part of the Quest Contest came to light. For example, a number of buildings and resources have been confirmed.

Building:

  • Farm
  • Mines
  • brewery
  • mill
  • Grammaticus (Roman School)
  • shipyard
  • Wrought
  • Fibula or spiral ring/torque maker
  • Coat Makers
  • Eel catcher

Resources:

  • Grain
  • Eisen
  • copper
  • Brooches/coil rings/torques
  • coats
  • Ale

Also exciting: The team actively encouraged consideration of design decisions. This could also happen in Anno 1800, but was very rare in side tasks outside of expeditions. So there may be more quests in Anno 117 that require us to make a few decisions. That would also fit well with the topic that we, as governors, mediate between Romans and Celts.
