Last episode signed by studio KT Racing (Kylotonn for the close friends, WRC Generations let approach during Big Ben week. Here are our first impressions.
2022 will mark a turning point for the WRC franchise as it will change hands. Owned by Evolution Studios in its heyday, the franchise went through hard times. Among other things, we think of the time when the official WRC game landed at Black Bean Games, in the hands of the Italian studio Milestone. If the Milanese are particularly in the air with motorcycles, it has to be admitted that their varied adventures on four wheels have never really convinced.
Thankfully, in 2015 Big Ben Interactive entrusted the series to the good care of French studio Kylotonn (now KT Racing), who struggled to pull the series out of the shoals of where it was. And it’s clear the result is convincing, with Metacritic scores continuing to rise since WRC 5. Unfortunately, all good things come to an end.
WRC: the last stand
For 2023, the WRC promoter has decided to entrust the license to Electronic Arts and the English Codemasters (DiRT Rally). This year therefore marks the last episode signed by the Paris studio. And on this occasion the developers decided to name their game WRC Generations instead of WRC11.
In addition to richer content, the game also brings us to the Rally1 generation. In fact, the premier class has seen a change in regulations with new cars. The main novelty is the introduction of a hybrid system, which allows bringing the total power of the cars to almost 500 hp. As with any electrical system, it must be used judiciously to maximize its performance.
Remember that WRC Generations will be released on October 13th on PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The game is also planned for PC and Switch, but it looks like the release will be later without having a concrete date yet.
