The Capcom Showcase commemorated the upcoming release of Ghost Trick Ghost Detective. A remaster coming June 30, 2023 for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC (Steam). No native PS5 and Xbox Series X|S version. However, the game is backward compatible and works fine on both platforms.
What is this Capcom game?

An old title that may have been forgotten except for those who made it back then. While not a top seller in terms of sales, the software was recognized for its many qualities. Until it was named a masterpiece. An atypical title that has provided a breath of fresh air.
In Ghost Trick Detective Phantom we embody Sissel. A murdered detective who awakens in a ghostly form tasked with solving his own murder. But time is against him as he only has one night to complete his mission. Thanks to his ghostly abilities, the man can possess objects of all kinds. Manipulate them and even bend time to return. A central mechanism that allows you to solve puzzles and save Sissel’s skin and that of other characters.

In order to adapt to current consoles, the game has reworked its controls from the ground up, but not only. In addition to graphical adjustments, Capcom has added other new features.
We played Ghost Trick Detective Ghost, what is it worth?
Ghost Trick Detective Ghost now runs in 1080p at 60 fps. We’re a far cry from the framerate and resolution of the DS version as a result. And obviously it’s obvious from the first moment. The colors are inevitably more vivid, more precise and unsightly aliasing, especially with the characters, is history. In any case, we don’t accept a graphic slap in the face, but the display is not smooth. Even on a big OLED screen and it’s even pretty for the genre and such an old game. The other notable improvement is the omission of touch controls – with the exception of the Nintendo Switch – for home consoles (PS4, Xbox One). A redesigned user interface to better adapt to standard platforms.
It is better ? Less well ? We won’t lie and pretend we made Ghost Trick Ghost Detective on NDS. Because it isn’t. However, during our brief demo we found it intuitive and we were never put at a disadvantage by this control using the PS5 DualSense controller’s sticks/buttons. However, this is only a preliminary verdict and we’ll have to wait until we see more complex puzzles that would require greater responsiveness, for example.
The Ghost Trick Ghost Detective HD Remaster also includes 37 newly orchestrated music tracks and original music by Masakazu Sugimori (Ace Attorney, Viewtiful Joe). We may reserve our judgment for later, but we didn’t feel like we had an old soundtrack on our minds. Prove that the RE Engine was used as a backup. In addition to completely new puzzles, trophies also appear. To see if these new features are enough to convince a new audience.
