First reported by the folks over at Twisted Voxel, rumors have surfaced about the long-awaited Elden Ring DLC.Presumably, the Elden Ring DLC - Shadow of the Erdtree – released on Twitter earlier this year will initially be available as A “Season Pass” consisting of two DLCs.
The season pass concept was reportedly scrapped by FromSoftware, which favored a larger single expansion in the form of Shadow of Erdtree. We also had a small content update in the form of the PvP-focused Colosseum update, which also landed late last year.
Information about this aborted season pass came from Discord (via Twisted Voxel), of all places, but it did come from Lance McDonald, who is no stranger to FromSoftware. You might recognize the name from a massive PT file digging operation, or maybe someone who figured out how to make Bloodborne better.
Regardless of where it comes from, this information should be taken with a grain of salt until FromSoftware confirms it; though, the chances of the developer confirming that a season pass is ever in the works are pretty slim.
In a Discord message, McDonald detailed that he didn’t know when the season tickets would be canceled. The Colosseum comes out for free one day, that’s all. McDonald seemed to imply that FromSoftware was missing a lot of content, so there’s only one for now, with a massive DLC pack coming. This makes sense, but again, we don’t know if it’s necessarily true. Perhaps more information will be revealed when we finally see what Shadow of Erdtree has to offer.
McDonald also noted that this is similar to what happened with Bloodborne after launch; Bloodborne also reportedly had two DLCs planned, and then merged the two into one called The Old Hunters.
Either way, if true, it’s great news for fans. In an industry filled with season passes, battle passes, etc., I really don’t like buying another one. Look at how Blizzard handled the service in Diablo Immortal and Overwatch 2 – not something we’d like to see in a FromSoft game, is it?
