Showrunner Eric Kripke had hinted that he didn’t know when the series would end before going back on his statements and confirming that season 5 would be the last. After working on the series for six years, Anthony Starr seems to be having trouble thinking about that ending.
When I think about it, I get very sad. It’s been such a long journey with the show. We started before COVID and then we released season 2 during COVID. We did all the promotion for the show while isolating at home and then all of a sudden we came back. We shot during the pandemic. It’s been such a journey with all these people that (the end) is going to be really sad. It’s going to be a sad day to hang up the spandex.
If he imagines that he is sad about saying goodbye to the series, the actor is also very clear and assures that he wants to end “on a positive note”.
I’m very conscious that I want us to end on a very strong and positive note. I don’t want us to become that show that went on one season too long and then stalled. On behalf of everyone who works on the show, I think we deserve to end with our heads held high, without feeling like we should have stopped sooner or that we abused (the fans’) hospitality, so to speak. I think it will be the right time, but it will also be difficult to leave.
