If you are looking for a keyboard that is both beautiful and ultra-comfortable, and at a fair price, the following lines will probably interest you. Here’s our “summary” opinion on the Ironclad from French brand “Designed by GG”.

Admittedly, Designed by GG is a much less well-known manufacturer than Logitech, Steelseries or Razer… And yet it clearly benefits from more visibility. This French brand designs its keyboards entirely in France, but manufacture them in China. We also value the particularly responsive and efficient on-site after-sales service.

A brand that deserves to be known

But when we talk to you about Designed by GG, it’s not just because it’s a French company. It is also and above all because it makes excellent mechanical keyboards that are undoubtedly among the best on the market.

A few weeks ago, Ludo tested the champion’s curse
, his “personal” keyboard, which he has been using every day for months. A great success “5 stars” for a particularly versatile product. Designed by GG then offered us to test its latest addition with a very different look: the Ironclad.

We tested one of the best keyboards for PC... and it's French!

Currently only available in white, The Ironclad has a deliciously retro look without overdoing it. Heavy and massive, it offers keys that stand out particularly from the case and a soft backlight. It clearly stands out from most “gaming” keyboards, which often rely on darker colors and aggressive curves.

The Ironclade is particularly comfortable to use, although it might be a bit high for some. But the addition of the palm rest (available as an option for $20) makes typing almost perfect. We just would have liked to have magnetized it.

In terms of ergonomics, we also regret the lack of dedicated multimedia keys (apart from the volume control) and a USB port as a hub. But otherwise everything is there.

Flawless typing thanks to Gateron switches

The Ironclad’s real strength is the quality of the shot thanks to the use of Gateron switches, factory fitted and lubricated for Designed by GG. The keyboard comes in three versions, ranging from the quietest to the quietest: clicky, tactile, or linear. We tested the “linear” version, which is clearly the quietest. And if you want even more peace for your ears, there’s a bag of tiny plastic rings for under $7. They are placed above the switches and make typing even quieter.

This is also another successful aspect of this keyboard: the highly customizable side. You can change the switches, make them quieter thanks to clever accessories, create the shortcuts you want through the software (which is still a bit sober though)… In short, it’s entirely possible to create a totally personalized experience.

The Designed by GG Ironclad is available for $129 without a palm rest and $149 with a palm rest and is a real hit. If you are looking for a keyboard with an original look but above all ultra-comfortable, this is clearly a very good choice.
