Of course, Todd Howard cannot elicit a release date for The Elder Scrolls 6. But according to the Bethesda boss, the long wait for the role-playing series has a good reason: We’re meant to play Elder Scrolls 6 for decades! After all, Skyrim has already shown that the potential for this is there.
Howard reveals that in almost three hours Lex Fridman Podcastin the course of which the Bethesda boss is squeezed a little bit about Starfield and of course The Elder Scrolls 6. By the way, we have already dared to make a release forecast. You can find out when the next part of the long-serving role-playing game series could be released here:
The Elder Scrolls 6
When is the release realistic?
TES6 should keep us happy for a long time
That reveals
Todd Howard on the release: Of course, in conversation with Lex Fridman, Todd Howard cannot elicit anything concrete about the possible launch date of The Elder Scrolls 6 – as hard as the podcast host tries. At the very least, Howard reveals that he himself wishes The Elder Scroll 6 could come out now:
I have a vague idea [davon, wann The Elder Scrolls 6 erscheint]. I wish it was soon. we [bei Bethesda] want it too and I wish [die Entwickler] wouldn’t take that long, but they do. If I could turn back time, I never would have planned to wait as long as it is taking now.
How Elder Scrolls 6 compares to Skyrim: According to Todd Howard, the long wait and the long development time have a good reason. After all, Bethesda has to measure up to Skyrim for the next The Elder Scrolls. And the role-playing game is still one of the developer studio’s most-played titles, eleven years after its original release.
With this, Bethesda is pursuing the claim for The Elder Scrolls 6 that players can enjoy it for at least as long, if not longer.
We want to make sure we’re doing it right for everyone. Our fans play games for a long time. Skyrim is eleven years old and is still probably our most played game. We don’t expect that to slow down and maybe people will continue to play it for another ten years. Accordingly, you have to be aware that the next Elder Scrolls should be played for a decade or two. And that’s changing the way we think about a game’s architecture from the start.
What else Bethesda is working on: Despite the long wait, The Elder Scrolls 6 is on the right track, according to Todd Howard. The big sci-fi role-playing game Starfield is scheduled for 2023 anyway. Only then can The Elder Scrolls 6 appear. And if you look even further into the future, you can count on Fallout 5 after the release of the Skyrim successor.
By the way: In our detailed video analysis, we address why The Elder Scrolls, like Cyberpunk 2077 or Diablo 4, was announced too early. Take a look for yourself:

What we know about TES 6 so far
Many open questions: The Elder Scrolls 6 was officially announced at E3 2018 with a first teaser trailer. Since then there has not been a lot of information about the new Bethesda role-playing game. All we know is that The Elder Scrolls 6 will not be Skyrim 2 and that the developers are still relying on the Creation Engine with some improvements – a debatable decision, according to Peter. In addition, it is now more or less confirmed that it goes to the country of Hammerfell.
