Today in a weekly review: The Tesla robot is coming sooner than expected. The end of the series of Lost as well. What does smock mean? We also tested a lot again.
This week I learned what Schmock really means. And I can immediately apply the term to the new Tesla robot. It should make life easier for all of us from next year. I’m skeptical, you probably are too. Are you in the mood for a garden? We introduce you to robot lawn mowers. Rather feel like staying at home? Then lock yourself in with smart door locks. Currently for everyone to have fun, says hello on behalf of the entire editorial team, the Dulli-like Michael.

For years I, an ignoramus, assumed that “Schmock” meant forms of dirt. “I’ll get rid of the Schmock here before I eat from the plate.” something like that. But no – our Katharina did some research and found out that the term comes from Yiddish. She writes:
On the one hand, a Schmock in youth slang is understood as a clumsy dolt, on the other hand, the term also derisively refers to an arrogant snob. A “Schmock” can range from just a bit Dulli-esque to a generally awkward person.
The humanoid Tesla robot is coming sooner than expected
I’m dying to meet you, but I still don’t know “Optimus”, the humanoid Tesla robot, personally. But somehow I already picture him as a clumsy dolt, like a Schmock.
In general, I still can’t quite believe what Tesla boss Elon Musk is promising for 2023. Optimus should be able to do all (!) work that mankind is fed up with.
So soon Optimus will not only be cleaning my apartment, but also doing sports for me and appearing at the annual Christmas carols with my relatives. Whether one or the other Schmock appears now, nobody notices anyway. Can he also write this newsletter? Nah – besides, I’m in the mood for it.
Concentrated editorial knowledge
This week we have revamped, updated or completely rewritten numerous comparisons, tests and shopping guides. With spring, gardening is the focus for some of you. Modern robotic lawn mowers, which we have compared for you here, promise relief.
If you want to improve your home, you might be interested in smart door locks. Things are becoming more and more practical and can sometimes even be controlled by voice: “Open sesame things!”
When the weather finally gets better and you put your resolution into action to do more sport, fitness trackers will help you stay tuned. We list the best models for you here. And did you know that many health insurance companies sometimes subsidize the purchase of a smartwatch or a fitness tracker?
Visiting VanMoof in Amsterdam
In the last issue of Hallo Netzwelt I wasn’t allowed to talk about it, I just told you about a trip to Amsterdam to an ominous e-bike manufacturer. Apart from a strange train ride (after Duisburg, a loudspeaker announcement from the train said: “We’re about to leave the Federal Republic. If you want, you can take off your mask now”. About 50 percent of the travelers did so immediately. The rest sank deeper and deeper the seats) it was a great trip.
I was at VanMoof and was able to test drive the new VanMoof S5 for you. Here is the relevant report:
The Facebook post of the week
Appropriately, the most discussed Facebook post this week is also under the electromobility flag. The New Zealand manufacturer UBCO has presented an agile e-motorcycle with four-wheel drive that sums up the advantages of electric motors.
Intended for rough off-road use, the moped weighs only 70 kilograms. Nevertheless, it has two motors for high traction even on muddy ground. Thanks to the electric drive, there is no clutch, no oil, no chain, and maintenance is minimal.
But the community on Facebook is already mourning the loss of the good old Schwalbe with a two-stroke engine. We can understand both sides…

Damn bitter instead of tender: beware of the Milka competition
Just in time for the approaching Easter, a nasty sweepstakes is doing the rounds. I almost fell for it too, because for once it’s made deceptively real. Hence the warning: If you receive this WhatsApp message, do not forward it. It’s also best not to click on the link and delete the message quickly.
You should also be careful with some virus scanners. Six fake antivirus apps have now been spotted in the Google Play Store. These do not protect your smartphone, but instead steal your bank details and install the nasty Sharkbot malware. Down with it now!
Only three episodes left: soon I’ll be “lost”
I keep emphasizing that when it comes to series topics, I’m left out in the editorial small talk. You’re right, I have no idea. I was all the more pleased to learn that I’m not the only one on the subject of “Lost”.
Last week I wrote that I started the series about 20 years late but am now hooked. Even Netzwelt series guru Tjark got wind of it and ennobled me at the same time: “Lost was my first big love for a series,” he wrote to me. Maybe I’m more receptive to cliffhangers than I thought.
The big problem: After six seasons, each with around 20 episodes, I’m slowly approaching the end. Only three more episodes – then the lights go out on the island for me. And then? I hardly dare to watch an episode in a row. How is the series going for me? That makes me crazy! Do you have any tips? I was already recommended Severance on Apple+. Is this a good Lost substitute? Ahhhh, this void I’m about to fall into!
The flat joke of the week
I don’t even want to think about it. The flat joke of the week could deliver something uplifting. Let’s see which one the random number generator spits out for us today. Have a nice weekend, we’ll read each other again next Friday at the latest when I’m lost without any loss…
What does the butcher do last night?
The slaughter table lamp off!
There are even more flat jokes at this point on Netzwelt.
A lot of effort goes into this. We look forward to a recommendation!
