game news We’ll be hearing from Assassin’s Creed for a long time
The Assassin’s Creed license still has a bright future ahead of it, as we saw during the Ubisoft Forward. Almost six games and even a Netflix series are expected. Since that’s a lot of information, here are five things to keep in mind for all of the Assassin’s Creed news we’ve received.
Summary
- Ubisoft bets everything on Assassin’s Creed
- Assassin’s Creed Nexus, in VR
- Assassin’s Creed Jade, AAA Cell Phone
- Assassin’s Creed Mirage, back to basics
- Red, Netflix, Infinity… no news, good news?
Ubisoft bets everything on Assassin’s Creed
It’s been 15 years since Assassin’s Creed came out, and since then we’ve had the right to more than a dozen adventures around the world that mix assassination and exploration. And we’re not even talking about films, comics and exhibitions. Even if the latest episodes of the saga have not always been convincing, sales figures continue to explode. “Valhalla” represents a sales record at the start of the franchise and has also sold over 20 million copies. There is no doubt that Ubisoft has a keen interest in continuing on this path to overcome its performance problems and its internal problems. This is expected given that five games have been announced alongside a VR project and many others.
Assassin’s Creed Nexus, in VR
We told you about Ubisoft getting into VR, specifically with Assassin’s Creed. If the project surrounding the Splinter Cell license has been canceled, Assassin’s Creed Nexus seems to be doing just fine. During our interview with David Votypka, the game’s creative director, we even found out that it was in the final stages of production. We should hear about it by the end of the year. As far as we know we can impersonate Ezio, Connor and Kassandra. The former is very popular. The second was chosen with reference to the historical period in which it is set. The third one is also popular, it’s a bit out of the way character but very interesting and central to the plot of the last AC. More characters could be added once the game is released. Another piece of important information: the modern story (with Abstergo) will be of particular importance in this new installment. Watch the video at the top of the article to learn more.
Assassin’s Creed Jade, AAA Cell Phone
Among all the projects announced by Ubisoft we find Assassin’s Creed Jadea mobile game with AAA-like ambitions. It was supposed to be an open-world adventure, with more or less the same gameplay as the console and PC games. For the first time it will be possible to fully customize your character. No release date has been announced, but get ready for a trip to China in the third century BC. To understand the synopsis, you must already know that Middle-earth was once divided into rival states that spent their time fighting each other for more territory and power. One family stood out: the Qin dynasty. So you play Wei Yu, an assassin in his service. He has already been mentioned by Ezio (in Assassin’s Creed II), who in particular took us to his tomb.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage, back to basics
The Ubisoft Forward was an opportunity for the publisher to focus on Assassin’s Creed Mirage, a title intended to return to the sources that made the saga’s popularity. For this new adventure we travel back to the Middle East (as we did in Assassin’s Creed). Towards Baghdad where we find Bassim de Valhalla but younger. The latter is torn between his ideals and his actions, between the desire for freedom and the price to be paid. His questions will also disrupt his quest. We tell you more in the video above. At the gameplay level, we will review the parkour of the first episodes and certain mechanics related to infiltration and assassination. We also find the tools, the ability to hide in the crowd, the black box missions, the eagle vision and the optional contracts. In short, Ubisoft bets on nostalgia, even if that doesn’t prevent the title from keeping certain more modern aspects of the gameplay.
Red, Netflix, Infinity… no news, good news?
We told you that Ubisoft has many projects planned for Assassin’s Creed. We’ve already talked about Nexus, Jade and Mirage, but no news on Assassin’s Creed Codename Red, Infinity, Hexe, Invictus or even the two projects in partnership with Netflix (a mobile game and a live-action series). For the latter, there is the Netflix Tudum conference. The latter will take place on June 17 at 6:30 p.m. For the rest, it is unlikely that we will have more information this year, especially since the projects are still at the very beginning of their development.
