Well, video games had some huge numbers over the weekend, with Marvel Rivals hitting 10 million players and Steam breaking its own concurrent user count for the umpteenth time

It turns out people really love video games, as both Marvel Rivals and Steam pulled in some pretty ridiculous numbers this weekend.

Did you know that video games are very popular? Who would have thought! Certainly not me, a games journalist who writes about games for a living. Yet as we've seen, Marvel Rivals continues to be incredibly successful with 444,000 players just hours after launch (increased to 480,990 players on Steam yesterday, by the way) , the game's official Twitter account shared the news and in just 72 hours, the total number of players reached 10 million. That's a pretty crazy number, but let's be honest, Marvel is more popular than it was when Overwatch first launched in 2016, and the fusion of the two seems destined to succeed.

By the way, not only does Marvel Rivals do well on Steam, but Steam itself does well. Just last September, Valve once again broke Steam's concurrent user count with over 38,360,000 players logged into the digital video game storefront at the same time, but this weekend customers saw that number jump all the way to 39,200,000 (via SteamDB). Now I'm not very good at math, but even I can see an increase of almost a million, which again is pretty ridiculous! Apparently, Steam is on track to reach 40,000,000 concurrent users in the coming months and continue to break records at a rate that continues.

To be clear, this doesn't mean 39,200,000 people are playing the game at the same time, it's just the number of people logged in at one time, but it still shows how well Steam is doing (and more surprisingly Valve is facing a class action lawsuit). Video games! People love them.
