Two new games based on the Halloween series were announced yesterday, and one of them, a pixel art platformer, has been revealed.

Yesterday, Evil Dead: The Game developer Boss Team Games announced that it was developing two games based on the Halloween series, one of which was developed using Unreal Engine 5 and even had help from the original film’s director John Carpenter. Although it remains a mystery, this is the most detailed of the two games, but today IGN revealed the second game, which turned out to be a 16-bit 90s arcade platformer. The game is called RetroRealms: Halloween, and players will take on the role of the infamous Michael Myers, slashing and killing anyone they meet with his trusty knife.

This isn’t the only game Boss Team Games has announced, either, as the RetroRealms brand covers a second game, another 16-bit pixel art platformer that’s once again based on Evil Dead. Ash Williams once again puts down his chainsaw, fights the undead and more – it essentially looks like the same game, albeit with a different setting and slightly different gameplay for Michael Myers and Ash. It’s also worth noting that Shantae series developer WayForward is helping develop this game, so it seems to be in good hands.

You can buy both games individually for $24.99 or get the dual-feature bundle for $49.99. Technically, buying the bundle is a penny more expensive, but it lets you play as either character in the respective game. Pre-ordering the game also lets you play as Laurie Strode from Halloween and Kelly Maxwell from Ash vs. the Evil Dead as bonus DLC characters.

“Everyone at Boss Team Games is a huge fan of horror games, and being able to work with such legendary properties is a dream come true,” said Steve Harris, CEO of Boss Team Games, in a press release. “It has been an amazing experience working with WayForward and our licensees to create not one, but two fast-paced 90s arcade-style games while staying true to the original Halloween movies and the Evil Dead series. The trailer released today gives fans a taste of the gory gameplay and fast-paced action, and we can’t wait to show off more!”

Both games also have release dates that align with the season, launching on October 18th and available to play on PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox.
