The Quidditch absence at Hogwarts Legacy has been a small disappointment for those of us who expected to play this magical sport. Avalanche Software has limited itself to reporting that it will not be available. However, there are many reasons to believe that could come sometime in the form of a free update, DLC or paid expansion.
In this post I want to make a personal reflection on why Quidditch is not available on Hogwarts Legacy, wikibooks and movies in hand, and what it might look like if introduced post-launch.
No hay Quidditch de Hogwarts Legacy
The official information from Avalanche Software says that no hay Quidditch de Hogwarts Legacy. There is no room for interpretation or surprise in the studio’s words… at least during the game’s launch. With that being said, we’ve seen a few things in-game that could indicate that the wizarding sport might be on the table.
The first clues are found in the game itself. we know we have flying brooms to scroll quickly through the mapping. It even seems that there will be several models, at least on an aesthetic level. On the other hand, a recent gameplay revealed that the Quidditch pitch it is there and that you can visit it at any time during your exploration.
In the video (above) of the user SirKnoe we can see that the Quidditch field has places you can interact with and NPCs training. It’s too well done to be simply a training ground for broomstick flying and ornamentation.
Hogwarts History: Why is there no Quidditch at Hogwarts Legacy?
Hogwarts Legacy takes place in 1890 (19th century) at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the magical world takes place the Goblin Rebellion, which involves a series of social problems that you will already discover as you progress through the game’s story. The big villain is Ranrok, who seeks to take down the Ministry of Magic.
The headmaster of Hogwarts at this time was Phineas Nigel Black, a Pureblood Slytherin student who became a teacher and later headmaster of Hogwarts. Sirius Black (the headmaster’s great-great-grandson) told Harry Potter at the Order of the Phoenix what phineas was “the least admired headmaster Hogwarts ever had”.
Phineas did not fulfill his position as director well and was a extremist magician that he despised muggles and half-blood wizards or “mudbloods”. There is no data on whether he applied his ideals at school. The portrait of him hangs in Albus Dumbledore’s office during the Harry Potter era.
Knowing all this, it’s safe to theorize why there’s no Quidditch at Hogwarts Legacy: the headmaster could have canceled or neglected activity, making it unavailable to students. That is to say: for us. In any case, Avalanche Software has a good lore-level excuse for not including the wizarding sport in the game.
Quidditch history: does it exist in the time of Hogwarts Legacy?
The book Quidditch through the ages (2001) has allowed us to know a lot of information about the magical sport. There are two key dates to deal with this matter:
- Las first flying broomsticks They date from the year 962 of the magical world.
- The first mention Quidditch it is found in the texts of the witch Gertie Keedle (11th century), who lived near the Queerditch marsh.
At first it was played with a Leather ball (Quaffle) and various enchanted rocks (Bludgers). Later, a letter from the wizard Goodwin Kneen to Olaf of Norway reveals the introduction of the Hunter and the Beater. The Snitch was finally introduced in 1629 after the Chairman of the Wizards’ Council, Barberus Bragge, released a Golden Snidget (bird) and offered a large sum to whoever caught it. Thus the Seeker was born.
The first Quidditch World Cup It takes place in 1473, thus establishing itself as the favorite sport of the magical world. Soon different models of competitive brooms begin to be sold. The sport continued to evolve over the years to what we know today. It goes without saying that in 1980 (the time of Hogwarts Legacy), Quidditch is more than established. In other words: it exists and is perfectly viable.
What would Quidditch be like at Hogwarts Legacy?
If you are reading me, Avalanche Software, there is nothing to invent: Quidditch has its own rules, well-established and well-known among fans, and both movies and video games have been able to recreate it very well. In Harry potter and the Philosopher’s Stone we were able to play a somewhat limited version of Quidditch, but extremely fun.
We were also able to play Quidditch in other franchise video games such as Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets y Harry Potter and the Quidditch World Cupfor example, the latter being the most complete version and closest to a match as we know it in books and movies.
How would I like it to be if added to Hogwarts Legacy in the form of DLC or expansion? I’ve had time to reflect and read many fans on Reddit. Assuming that it will be a paid DLC or expansion, it is permissible to let your imagination fly a bit:
- true to the rules that we know from books and movies. No weird inventions. It should have physics to push opponents and be able to fall off the broom.
- Quidditch should have your own intro story and certain equipment requirements: new competitive brooms, clothing and protections.
- In the absence of multiplayer, the ideal would be to have a competent AI that allowed us to play in any position and win games. Each role should be acquired after clearing certain tutorials that explain how to play the game. Always being a Seeker would be another option, but let’s dream…
- different modes: practices and friendly match, accessible whenever we want, and match of the season that is activated during a period of time. If you don’t show up, your team loses the game.
Hogwarts Legacy Quidditch should be framed as a activity or event, and not as a minigame like the many that we can find on the map. Players should be able to put in hours of gameplay whenever they want. Which brings me to a point that I haven’t determined why the game hasn’t come out: the progression system and the rewards.
I think it’s clear that Quidditch will come to Hogwarts Legacy at some point in the form of post-launch content. I have few doubts. It is possible that Avalanche Software and Warner Bros. decide to evolve the game world in another direction. Or not. They have a justification for not having it now, but not reciprocating the fans could be a reason for many disappointments.
Do you think there will be Quidditch at Hogwarts Legacy? How would you like it to be? Tell me your theories and wishes in comments. I read you! And remember that Hogwarts Legacy will be released on February 10, 2023 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, on April 4 for PS4 and Xbox One and on July 25 for Nintendo Switch.
