Surviving in survival games is hard enough as it is. But what if surviving suddenly becomes a challenge for a survival game itself?
Sons of the Forest has been the most anticipated survival game in years – it’s ranked #1 in our GameStar polls year after year and has steadfastly defended its position among Steam’s Most Desired Games. Now the sequel to The Forest is finally here! At least… halfway.
Because it has one thing in common with the majority of all survival hits: It is currently in Early Access. And in the worst case, this can lead to most people playing Sons of the Forest in its worst version – if the hype continues to flatten out as the updates progress. A fate that has already overtaken Valheim.
But is Sons of the Forest automatically doomed? Not at all! In our podcast, we analyze what the sequel to The Forest has to deliver now in order to pass Early Access with flying colors!
For this we have put together the following survival crew:
- André Baumgartner has spent an incredible 206 hours in The Forest and as our dedicated guide author already knows Sons of the Forest better than anyone. He calls every mutant and every pebble by its first name.
- Michael Graf likes his survival games best in co-op and actually best without horror. Why did he still choose Sons of the Forest? Good question!
- Geraldine Hohmann has friends in her life with whom she almost only talks when there is a new Valheim update – because then they dive into their Viking survival adventure together again. She also thinks horror is great.
By the way: At the end of this podcast episode you can expect an addendum from future Micha and future Géraldine on the brand new update, because apparently the developers heard our podcast even before it was released. André also took the chance and immediately wrote down his update assessment:

Well, or less briefly and concisely, when Micha has to defend himself against Géraldine’s infamous vampire accusations.
