What almost nobody knows: We at GameStar like to get angry. That’s why we let the editors regularly vote on top lists, which we then get really upset about ourselves afterwards. So now again with the 300 best PC games of all time.
That’s because of how our lists are created: not curated by gray-bearded sages high on the Olympus of know-it-all, but by a democratic vote within the entire editorial team. And democracy can be pretty wild and confused.
This leads to discussions that extend into our podcast. Or in two podcasts, we have divided our discussion into two episodes for reasons of length.
Micha and Géraldine have invited a guest who will set off alarm bells as soon as GameStar publishes a new list: Christian Schiffer is a journalist with Bayerischer Rundfunk and has the online games magazine Wasted co-founded and votes at the podcast Last Game Standing regularly the best games in various categories.

Together we talk about the challenges and problems, but also about the beautiful sides of our list of the 300 best PC games. Because despite all the criticism: you can tell from the list that she is our baby. Who else would vote a game like Stronghold into the top 100 if not GameStar?
Of course, Micha and Christian talk shop about Ultima 7 and Planescape Torment, which are still too far down the list, while Géraldine celebrates the success of the story adventures (even if the wrong story adventure ended up at the top).
Discussing whether a game’s importance or quality should determine its spot on the list, we salute newly-arriving indie gems like Dead Cells and Loop Hero – although Christian feels their fame is fleeting and instead misses some classics.
In short: we do what we love to do best: we philosophize and discuss good and beloved games. And that’s exactly what our lists are for.
Speaking of which, there was also a podcast discussion with Christian about our list of the 100 best story games:
