Lovers of space exploration have been pining for Starfield since the Starfield Direct of the Summer Game Fest 2023. After the Xbox Games Showcase, we watched a 40-minute presentation with cinematics, gameplay, and lots of information. It was really interesting.
Needless to say, the fans have analyzed each image of the presentation in search of new information, references, secrets and still unrevealed aspects of Starfield. Many have been found and below we will tell you about the seven most outstanding.
What has happened to Earth in Starfield?
The most astute space explorers will have noticed that our Solar System appears in the presentation of Starfield. He planet Mars it is presented as a very prosperous mining colony (I expected a military power like in The Expanse), IO (moon of Jupiter) and one of the gameplay scenes corresponds to to the Moon. And yes, the Earth also appears… but not as we know it.
Starfield takes place in the year 2330. Human beings have spread across the stars forming colonies and different towns. Bethesda has confirmed that history will take us early to our Solar System and that we have no illusions about our planet, since it has been devastated by an ecological disaster. We don’t know if climate change, a nuclear war and its consequences, a massive alien attack… The question is that it will be a big desert ball.
We know it was a massive getaway because in the trailer we can hear dialogue that goes: “we thought we were the only ones who left the earth“. On the other hand, there is a society of earth preservation: culture, flora and fauna, and more.
The capture we see of the earth seems to show the Arco Gateway o to gate to the west in Saint Louis, Missouri (USA). It is a 200 meter high monument built with stainless steel and reinforced concrete. The arch is hollow and has an elevator and a viewpoint at the top. Many fans are convinced that it is the same structure and have theorized that we will be able to explore it.
Another theory points out that it could be part of a ring of a large crashed colony ship. We have seen some similar designs in The Expanse series and a very similar case in another Bethesda video game: Fallout 76. Is it a reference? the earth in Starfield It is already one of the most important mysteries.
customizable space suit
If there is something that unites us all in video games, it is the character customization. Bethesda has always offered a wide range of possibilities when it comes to creating and characterizing our character, and they will repeat it in Starfield. Once generated, we can equip it with clothes and with the most important element in the game: the space suit.
The equipment in terms of clothing and armor is divided into several sections: space suit, backpack, helmet and clothing. Each category will have its own pieces, which in turn will have their statistics, utilities and aesthetics. Taking into account that we are going to travel through space on planets with very different biomes (each with its own inclemencies), having several pieces for each situation will be essential.
We can select our character to be remove helmet in safe areas, but we have not seen anything about a possible transfiguration of the pieces. That is to say: change it aesthetically and maintain its properties. And it may make sense that it is not present, since each one belongs to a certain faction and / or has a very specific utility, such as mining.
Legal and illegal businesses in Starfield
Once we create our characters, we go to the attributes section of our character, where we can select up to three abilities that make up their history, personality, advantages and disadvantages. One of the options that has attracted the most attention has been Commerce (Commerce), the description of which says that we can “create and improve successful businesses“.
The simplest theory is that this ability gives us advantages when buying and selling products, from the raw material that we obtain by mining to weapons and ships that we requisition (not steal, requisition) during our adventures. The theory developed is that this ability makes it easier for us to set up our business or companybe it a shop on a planet or a mining company.
It’s not such a crazy idea. We know that our fellow NPCs can receive homework assignments both on the ship as a crew and in our house. Thinking of a business whose stocks depend on our activities and which generates money is not such a crazy idea.
And this would only be the legal part. Several ship scans during the presentation reveal that there is a black market o smuggled, which will require a higher risk without special measures, but which will surely be much more profitable. Our relationship with the factions and our diplomacy can play an important role in this section.
The Scanner, our best friend
And speaking of scanners and business, the scanner of our suit promises to be the best friend of both explorers and entrepreneurs. No Man’s Sky is a space video game that shows us the importance of this device and its usefulness when it comes to collecting information. In Starfield It works the same way: it offers information about everything we scan to get more information about the environment.
The scanner has two sections: one that says the number total scannable stuff on the planet (THANK YOU) and another that shows all the scan information. And here comes the fantasy! The scan shows a lot of data: the biomes in which we can find the animals, plants and materials, their dangerous or harmless nature and even the biological / geological properties that reveal the resources that we will obtain from them.
The variety of flora and fauna, raw materials and more will grow exponentially in relation to the number of biomes on the planet. In other words: the more variety of biomes, the more living beings and resources. Other desert planets may be rich in one or two materials.
For all this, the scanner will become the best friend of explorers and businessmen. The first can major in botany and zoology, For example; while the latter will be able to know which biomes are ideal for finding certain valuable materials on the market.
Starfield’s Persuasion System
the path of the Diplomacy It’s always been a possibility in The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, though it’s certainly not a favorite of many people. My lazy nature has made me love this system, as it can save you a lot of twists and turns, but I understand that shooting your way or slitting your way out of the dark is a much more satisfying activity.
In general, the persuasion in previous Bethesda installments has been governed by probability: the higher our statistics, the chances of success… although always with a random factor that we cannot control. However, in Starfield things change and it becomes a mini-game: each option has a color and a number that indicate the difficulty of successfully obtaining said option. In other words, it will depend to a greater extent on our abilities.
And finally, two interesting details that many of you could have overlooked:
- The VASCO Robot, who will accompany us on our adventure whenever we want, will have the ability to say our name, at least our last name. In the presentation we hear him say “Captain Howard”, in reference to Todd Howard. This is not new, since the Codsworth robot from Fallout 4 could already say a series of pre-recorded last names that we could choose from. VASCO promises to go one step further.
- Starfield has an ability called “Hero Worshiped” or “Hero Worshipped”, which basically turns us into a known hero and we have an admirer named “Adoring Fan”, who will basically worship us like a god (to the point of awkwardness and bordering on bullying), will be able to join our crew and will periodically give us gifts. This is a nod to the same character from The Elder Scrolls Oblivion, who admires us after becoming champion of the arena. They are extremely similar. There is no room for doubt.
These are some details found by the community and collected by the canal de YouTube outsidexbox. If you want to know more about these details and learn about others, we recommend that you take a look at his video. We remind you that Starfield will be released on September 6, 2023 para Xbox Series X/S y PC.
