Apple recently released the invitations sent out to the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). This year the event will again take place completely online. The latest developments in Apple’s software, mainly on the various operating systems iOS 16, iPadOS 16, tvOS 16 and macOS 16, are discussed there.
The event is aimed primarily at Apple developers. But since they discuss the software that powers your iPhones, Macs and Apple Watches, the results of the conference are also exciting for their users.
We will probably only know for sure what changes there will be to iOS 16 for the iPhones after the event (June 6th to 10th, 2022). But we’re looking at some rumors and concepts ahead of time to give you a little preview of what’s in store for us with iOS 16.
Apple could give us a new user interface
A new interface always provides a breath of fresh air, but also discussions. The last major change came with iOS 14, so a complete overhaul could be in order. The YouTuber Tech Blood has taken the trouble to develop a concept for a new interface and present it in a video.
Here we see, among other things, a dark mode, split screen, new widgets and iMessages, as well as a revised Control Center:

While we most likely won’t see the changes in this form in Apple’s new iPhone operating system, the company may well be pursuing some of the ideas themselves.
The video has now almost 1.5 million views, so it cannot be ruled out that Apple employees have also noticed it and been inspired by one or the other idea.
Another concept, albeit far less detailed, comes from Twitter user Majin Bu. This has revised the welcome screen with the app icons. Here you can see how he imagines the new operating system for Apple smartphones:

We can certainly imagine that Apple will make changes to the user interface. Of course, we don’t yet know what these will look like in the end.
AR or VR integration
We could also see a leap with the new operating system when it comes to AR and VR. You only hear rumors about the Apple Glasses. But there is still hope that Apple will enter the AR world with it.
So it could well be that Apple wants to better integrate virtual reality into its ecosystem with iOS 16. In what form exactly and whether we might even see the Apple Glasses this year remains to be seen.
Widgets on iOS are already very useful right now because they can display important information at a glance. But with iOS 16, they could take it a step further by making the widgets interactive.
In the music widget, for example, you can no longer just see which song and album you are listening to, you can also jump to the next song or stop the music directly in the widget. But that’s just one use case. Interactive widgets could work like small versions of the actual apps.
When is iOS 16 coming? The new operating system will most likely be presented at WWDC between June 6th and 10th and a beta version will be released for developers. However, users will only get the new operating system later, as it will not be released before a stable and largely bug-free version is achieved. The release should traditionally take place in September 2022. Meanwhile, the iPhone 14 Pro could also break with a long-standing tradition with the camera.
What do you expect from iOS 16? Is there something that bothers you about the current operating system for iPhones? Please let us know.
