What is Invictus?
We’re going to jump right in with the toughest question of all – what is the game codenamed Invictus anyway? Since the announcement at Ubisoft Forward, we know very little about the title. A few details are already known:
- The first real multiplayer AC: While previous installments in the series had multiplayer modes, they clearly focused on the single player experience. Invictus, on the other hand, is supposed to be a real multiplayer game.
- Known Assassins: We may be able to play or at least meet our favorite assassins like Ezio, Kassandra or even Eivor. According to journalist Stephen Totilo, images of some well-known figures related to Invictus were shown.

- Not a classic open world: From Totilo’s post it also goes hand in hand that there will apparently be no specific location as in the previous parts. How and where exactly Inviction is supposed to play is still unclear.
- Free2Play? According to Assassin’s Creed boss Marc-Alexis Côté, the target group should be a broad player base and consideration is being given to raising the title as a Free2Play model. But that’s not certain yet. However, the fact that the monetization model has not yet been finalized shows how early the game is in the development phase.
- Multiplayer Developer: Ubisoft has also cobbled together the right expertise. Experienced developers who have worked on the multiplayer titles Rainbow Six: Siege and For Honor are now working on Invictus.
And how does it play now?
Everything else drifts into the land of vague assumptions and speculation. Probably the biggest and most important question remains: How does it play at all? Like in Assassin’s Creed Unity, will we complete missions together and eliminate our target with teamwork? Will there be a Brotherhood-style PvP mode where we kill each other from behind? Or will it be something completely different, or all at once? We simply don’t know.
But we already know a lot more about the next AC game Mirage. There was already a nice trailer for it, which you can watch below:

What kind of game Assassin’s Creed Inviction will be maybe Ubisoft doesn’t know exactly yet. After all, the title will still be a few years away. In addition, Marc-Alexis Côté said in an interview with us that they want to let the community participate more and more in the development of upcoming games by announcing projects very early on and thus being able to assess the mood in the community.
The best example of this are probably the two AC projects with the code names Red and Hexe: The latter in particular is still a few years away, but the project is already being reported on. There was even a small video teaser to see:
