Where did the offtanks go? In a harrowing announcement, Blizzard Entertainment announced the removal of a tank roll to bring 5-player teams back to Overwatch 2, but also revealed maps and other content that will be released shortly.

Blizzard Entertainment aired a live program yesterday that was all about the topicOverwatch 2, the direct sequel to Overwatch that was released in 2016. Unlike the first title in the license, the second will focus more on PvE campaigns that always tell their story, even though PvP won’t go away. The characters will all be redesigned, but these changes could expand the gameplay as well.
- Different skills for heroes
In its presentation, Blizzard revealed some gameplay improvements: Winston, for example, will get a secondary fire that can extend its door, while Mei will lose its ability to freeze the entire enemy. This ability is only reduced to the ultimate.
In addition to these adjustments, the heroes all receive a unique passive in terms of their play style: for example, supports receive constant healing, while DPS have a higher movement speed. The tanks will of course be more difficult to move (Lucio’s dent will therefore no longer be able to push Reinhardt and his heavy armor several meters back …).
This information has by far generated the most reactions in the community: Overwatch 2 becomes a 5 vs. 5, and the role sacrificed will be that of the tank. Obviously, out of the simple will of the players, the meta could decide otherwise whether there is no role in Overwatch 2, but a priori the typical composition is therefore reduced to 2 DPS, 2 supports and a single tank.
If this could lead to some arguments between friends about how to reduce yourself 5, this change is going to have a significant impact, especially on the competitive scene. In fact, players who have specialized as offtank (or main tank) for years may have half the offer if the competitions pass Overwatch 2. The Overwatch League teams need to get rid of it too. A player, and it will be, it is difficult for these tank specialists to specialize in any other role in the hope that they will get their pen out of the game. In either case, this announcement seems pretty final.

In addition to these key announcements, other changes have been announced such as: B. a revised user interface Overwatch 2 A slightly more unique look and feel, the new little known push game mode and 8 new maps.
In the meantime we are still in the shadows as far as an exit window is concernedOverwatch 2, while Overwatch’s development has been put on hold for over a year since the last character, Echo, was released. The game could be expected in spring 2022, but nothing is certain.
