Publisher 2K Games became the target of a cyber attack. According to 2K, hackers obtained access data to the tool, which is used to process support requests, via a third-party provider.
The hackers then sent what appeared to be official emails from the account, containing a link to download malware. These apparently aimed at passwords stored in browsers in order to steal users’ accounts.
what you can do now
First of all, you should not open any more emails from 2K support until the official all-clear has been given. If you have already done so and possibly even clicked on a link, the publisher recommends Twitter
- Changes all passwords stored in your browser.
- Uses multi-factor authentication wherever possible. 2K suggests apps for authentication as the most secure method.
- Run your antivirus program.
- Checks whether your e-mail program has set unauthorized forwarding options.
The customer support platform will remain offline until secur ity is restored, according to 2K.
In addition, there is no information as to whether other systems from 2K Games could have been corrupted. Surely, meanwhile, it doesn’t hurt to exercise caution with any news from 2K over the next few days.
