- WhatsApp is currently testing a new option in Messenger.
- A switch in the settings deactivates the automatic playing of animated content if desired.
- This should not distract you when reading a chat.
The messenger WhatsApp offers more and more options to add emotions to your text messages. In addition to emojis, this includes stickers or avatars. These are no longer just pictures; in many cases, WhatsApp also plays an animation when sending. For example, the red heart emoji starts beating when you send it individually. Such animations can be annoying, which is why WhatsApp is testing a new option.
Like the fan blog WABetaInfo reported, in beta version 2.24.11.4 of the messenger for Android phones you can toggle a switch in the settings that prohibits the automatic playing of animated content in the chat. In the future, animated elements will only be played when you click on them. However, GIFs are excluded from this option.
Turn off autoplay for animated content
We think that introducing this option is a good idea, as many animations can be annoying for some people and distract them when reading the chat history.
However, it is still unclear when Messenger will roll out the function for everyone. Test runs on WhatsApp can last between a few days and several months. However, the messenger is currently rolling out a practical innovation for the integrated camera.
