You can use WhatsApp status to let your contacts know what you are doing or share funny pictures. But with a trick you can also share music.
The WhatsApp status works in a similar way to Instagram stories. But there is one significant difference. You cannot use music on WhatsApp yet. Perhaps this function will be added in the future. Until then, you will have to do some tricks to add background music to your status.
There are two small detours you can use to add your favorite music to your original WhatsApp status.
All you need is a smartphone and a streaming app like Spotify or an audio player app and an MP3 file.
With the following simple steps, you can easily add music to your WhatsApp status and then share it with your friends.
Option 2: Share music via voice message
It has recently become possible to post voice messages in your WhatsApp status. Here, too, you cannot directly copy an MP3 file from your smartphone into the status, but you can still add music to your status using the feature.
The trick to putting music in your status works on the same principle as the first option with the camera. Instead of clicking on the camera symbol, you click on the pencil symbol next to it, then you will be asked to write a status. You then click on the microphone symbol to record your voice message.
If you want to insert music instead of a voice message, you must first open Spotify, Deezer or your music player of choice and turn the song up to full volume. Finally, return to WhatsApp and start recording the voice note. Please note, however, that voice notes can only be 30 seconds long.
What you need to consider before sharing
When choosing the music, you should pay attention to copyright. Even if you only use the music as background music, the rights of use are solely the responsibility of the authors or their collecting societies. Since the WhatsApp status is practically publicly accessible to all contacts with your phone number, the special rule of a private copy for personal use does not apply. To avoid problems, you can only share your WhatsApp status with selected contacts.
By the way, it could soon be easier to add music to your status. Meta, the company behind WhatsApp, has entered into a new user agreement with Universal Music. This also applies to WhatsApp for the first time. You may soon be able to choose from a range of different pieces of music to use as background music, similar to Instagram.
You can also add a link to your WhatsApp status that can be loaded with a tap in your web browser.
