When Bethesda gave us a “Fuck you” in Fallout and it ended up becoming a meme that we miss

Bethesda, Ended, Fallout, Fuck, gave, meme

It’s not often that developers mess directly with players. We know of cases in which they joke and even play tricks on us, like Rocksteady did in Batman Arkham Asylum. However, Bethesda and Obsidian Entertainment went one step further with Fallout 3 and New Vegas respectively, but later regretted it in Fallout 4.

All players of Fallout 3 We suffered from Bethesda’s practical joke with trap doors: doors that open and lead nowhere. Some are empty, others have grenade traps, and one in particular went viral (later an Easter egg) because it said “Fuck You” in large, green ink.

It was a trick or a practical joke, almost no one took it personally. The community shared it and then Obsidian decided to honor this door with a similar graffiti on a double door. They didn’t bother to hide any of the doors it was painted on. Of course they wanted us to find the wink.

I couldn't imagine Helldivers 2 in a crossover with Magic: The Gathering, but now I just want an official deck to distribute democracy

And although it became quite well known among fans, Bethesda decided to soften the message of the easter egg in the next installment. Fallout 4 It also has at least one of these doors. It was hidden again, but it was so obvious that it bordered on the absurd. In this case, the developers added a “You look good today” or “You look handsome today”, along with an orange skull. Although it was not an insult, the stage was set for us to be surprised by a Sentinel robot.

I haven’t found a similar door in Fallout 76… and I’ve searched for it thoroughly. Perhaps that is the reason why many players chose to recreate this Easter egg or missing tradition in their CAMPs… at the risk of being reported by a player who did not understand the reference. They used walls, doors and neon letters to create their own versions. Below you can see an example.

I sincerely hope that Bethesda does not decide to discard this little nod in the next installments of the franchise. It is true that it was born as a missing message, but over the years it has become something that all fans hope to find during our adventures through the wasteland. I’m sure all of us fans will look into Fallout 5 or whatever the hell the next game is called.
