We all love The Merc With A Mouth, especially since he convinced Hugh Jackman to return as Logan in Deadpool and The Wolverine. What a magical movie! Despite all the acclaim he’s earned for the recent film, he still has one pending task: pairing up with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield and/or Tobey Maguire… or all three, why choose?
We know it’s something spectacular because we’ve already seen it in the comics. The Deadpool + Spider-Man combination is a guaranteed hit. The Merc with a Mouth’s madness contrasts very well with the good-natured Peter Parker. They are very good friends, so much so that Deadpool came to confess his great truth: he knows he is in comics, series, movies and video games.
It was in Spider-Man/Deadpool #41 from 2016 when Spider-Man asks Deadpool who the hell he’s talking to when he seems to be talking to himself, right after he makes a reference to Matrix. She has noticed that he usually talks to himself when they fight and get into mischief together, but at that moment he has just done it right under her nose and there is no one else but the two of them by the campfire.
“Who are you talking to?” Spider-Man asks, intrigued, as he sneaks into Wade’s frame. “The readers. The people who are reading the comic,” Deadpool says calmly as he points at us. “So, you think we’re part of a comic?” adds a very freaked-out Spider-Man.
Deadpool answers that he doesn’t believe it, that he knows it. It’s something that he’s always been very clear about and that Loki himself confirmed to him during one of his adventures. However, he doesn’t have time to be more specific because the comic’s writer, Robbie Thompson, warns him not to continue talking and sends a child to interrupt the conversation.
Needless to say, Spider-Man and Deadpool ignore Thompson and continue talking about the topic. Peter asks if it’s funny and if he can do it, and Wade invites him to try it with a smile. “Um… Thanks for reading?” says a shy Spider-Man as he breaks the fourth wall. In my opinion, it’s one of the most wonderful scenes between both characters and I hope it happens in the movies.
