Video game add-ons are often worthless, but sometimes they can be very, very right: just check out The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion’s DLC catalog. It infamously introduced the concept of vests, or paid cosmetics in single-player games, to the gaming world, which was widely condemned as a cynical money grab (even so, the concept ended up being so lucrative that it’s still around today ). But it also gave us Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles, establishing a familiar large-scale game format with a mid-sized expansion within existing maps and a larger one in its own brand-new zone. A big, quasi-sequel-sized collection.
Starfield’s most recent DLC, Shattered Space, isn’t a huge improvement over the base game, but it’s likely to be the precursor to bigger (and probably better) expansions in the future. God knows the potential is there.
But that’s by the way. My question to my esteemed podcast panel today is: Which DLC expansions are better than the base game? To find out what they chose and who I chose as the winner, check out our recorded podcast here.
