2021 was perhaps the toughest year for PC gamers in a long time, if not at all. In terms of graphics cards, it is at least the most expensive. And the end of the chip crisis is not even in sight. Nevertheless, or rather: that is precisely why we asked you a few days ago which graphics card you are using. Does that give a completely different picture of the situation?
And in fact it can be said that GameStar readers don’t seem to do things by halves. The four most popular 3D accelerators are either current high-end GPUs or five-year-old graphics cards that are now considered entry-level models. For the sake of clarity, we only show you the top 20 in the following diagram. You can find the evaluation of all models in the survey under View results

That of all people Nvidia Geforce RTX 3080 the survey participants are in almost one and a half thousand computers, surprisingly in the evaluation, even if it is clear to us that GameStar readers tend to tend to high-end hardware on average than, for example, Steam players in their entirety.
After all, the 3080 currently costs between 1,600 and 1,800 dollars, depending on the manufacturer. Unless you bought the tickets at the end of 2020 at reasonably reasonable prices, or you were able to buy a comparatively bargain in the summer months.

Will graphics cards stay that expensive?
Nvidia comments on the price development

The two entry-level graphics cards are not only popular with the GameStar community, the picture is comparable monthly hardware survey from Steam. The GTX 1060 has occupied the top position there for several years, and the GTX 1070 is in seventh place this year.
With a share of only 1.11 percent, the RTX 3080 is clearly lagging behind in 23rd place on Steam. The RTX 3070 with a share of at least 1.8 percent in twelfth place.
It is also surprising that the RTX 3090 is comparatively widespread among GameStar readers (46th place on Steam with a share of 0.45 percent). 875 readers stated that they owned the top model, which is around four percent of those surveyed.
