The Steam Deck will finally come this year, but not before February 2022. In question: the component shortage, which currently affects everyone in the high-tech world. In the meantime, Valve is still working on its hybrid PC / console, especially improving the SteamOS. Update 20211120.2 reduces the weight of the operating system to 10 GB compared to the initial 24 GB. A great feat that allows you to use an additional 14 GB to install your games.
A nice patch list for the Steam Deck
The other novelty is the new design of the “Big Picture” TV mode, which allows a better transition between laptop and PC. Here is the full update:
- The Steam Deck’s touchscreen should now be reliable every time it starts
- Cosmetic improvements to the boot sequence which should now be transparent
- Fixed the HDMI output not working on some configurations after disconnecting
- Improved WiFi performance of the Steam Deck
- Steam bundle update for first launch
- The operating system and the preinstalled software now take up significantly less space on the internal drive (10 GB instead of 24 GB). This update will only be applied the next time a full reprint is made
- BIOS 100 was provided for devices with Micron memory and BIOS 29 for devices with Samsung memory. After updating to this version, you will be prompted to install a BIOS update the next time you connect it to the mains.
- Updates to kernel drivers for WiFi, audio, GPU and more.
Obviously, Valve is taking the extra time to make the user experience on its Steam Deck much more enjoyable, which only a few hand-picked developers can currently enjoy.
