Warhammer 40,000: Space Marines 2 is still a few months away from release, but those who enjoy strategy games might be happy to hear that the game is currently free to play.
Of course, strategy games aren’t for everyone, but you know what everyone loves? Free stuff! Especially free games, given how high their prices can be, and right now 4X strategy game Warhammer 40,000: Gladius – Relics of War is free on all the big-name PC stores, including Steam (thanks, PCGamesN). You’ll need to act relatively quickly, though, as it’s only free until next week, Thursday, May 30, and once it’s no longer free the price will go up again to $40 (so you can see why free is quite a steal).

In Warhammer 40,000: Gladius, you can “play as one of four iconic Warhammer factions (Astra Militarum, Space Marines, Orks or Necrons), each with their own unique playstyle and tech tree. Explore a randomly generated world filled with special abilities and threatening wildlife that could crush the morale of your troops. Secure control of powerful ancient artifacts to give you an edge over rival factions.” On top of that, you can build cities and fortifications to “expand your empire and build an army to destroy your enemies,” with each faction also having their own unique storyline. I’m not a huge fan of strategy games myself, but it sure sounds like there’s a lot on offer here.
Earlier this week, the annual Warhammer Skulls showcase took place, where a host of updates to the tabletop game series were offered. For most people, the biggest and most exciting update will be the reveal of Space Marine 2 – with a 6v6 PvP mode and co-op so you can play with friends. The Warhammer 40K: Speed Freeks beta is now playable too, and Warhammer 40K: Boltgun is finally getting a Horde mode too. Essentially, it’s a great time to be a Warhammer fan.
