Notice: Mild Spoilers for Deadpool and Wolverine
The concept of the “binding being” has become relevant following the release of Deadpool and Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Throughout the film starring Ryan Reynolds, we saw how Logan became the key character for the Fox universe. This led many to investigate who the “binding being” could be in the MCU.
This “secret” seems to have been solved quite a long time ago, specifically, more than two years ago, during the ceremony in which Benedict Cumberbatch received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. At that ceremony, Kevin Feige mentioned in his speech that the Doctor Strange Cumberbatch was the anchor of the entire MCU.
The concept was discussed again during an interview with Marvel Studios screenwriter Michael Waldron, who reaffirmed that Doctor Strange is the binding being of the sacred line. Although many speculated that this role could belong to Spider-Man or Iron Man, the reality is that Strange has been vital to the future of the franchise, especially during his appearance in Avengers and other subsequent films.
While it would make sense that Peter Parker Even if it were to be binding, it’s important to remember that the character doesn’t belong entirely to Marvel. Giving such a crucial role to a superhero that it doesn’t own could be risky if Sony and Marvel ever break their Spider-Man deal.
