Who is the Bloody Wolf in Diablo 4?
Anyone who has played the Diablo 4 beta and watched the intro will certainly have asked themselves a big question: Who is the Bloody Wolf and why is he given such a prominent appearance?
Many fans and connoisseurs of lore have already put forward theories as to what could really be hiding behind the beast. If you want to know and are not afraid of spoilers so you should read on.
Who is the Bloody Wolf from Diablo 4?
What happened? In the Diablo 4 Beta we experienced the first hours of the upcoming action RPG and as a result we have already seen the first parts of the story.
Right at the start of the game, during the first cutscene, your character travels through the Shattered Peaks and is attacked at night by a mysterious being that kills your horse. When your character then saves himself in a cave to spend the night, he is followed and watched by a scary wolf.

Who is this wolf? Many players are sure that the Bloody Wolf must be an important player in the Diablo 4 storyline, otherwise he would not have missed such a prominent appearance right at the beginning of the game. We also show the most plausible theories from the community.
#1: Connection to Mephisto
In the trailer, a sigil can clearly be seen on the Bloody Wolf’s exposed skull. This sigil already appeared in the Diablo Bestiarum Book of Adria on where it is associated with Mephisto.
Mephisto is also the father of the new villain Lilith, so it wouldn’t be surprising if the Lord of Hatred made a comeback. The fans suspect that the Bloody Wolf is Mephisto himself or that the wolf is controlled by him.
#2: Zoltun Lock
You will also encounter the Bloody Wolf during a story quest where you return to the hamlet of Tristram in a vision. The brief dialogue with the wolf reminds many players of Zoltun Kulle from Diablo 3. Not only because of his voice and the way he speaks, but also because of his obvious disgust for the Horadrim.
#3: Diablo
Last but not least, some fans also suspect that the wolf could be Diablo himself. Although there is little concrete evidence of this, it could possibly make sense. The wolf apparently wants to help you stop Lilith. Diablo and the other great evils would be able to do this, since Mephisto’s daughter pursues her own plans and apparently strives for rulership over Hell.
