it’s an open secret sony and game console has been contributing to the development Callisto Protocol. Platform Holder’s Visual Arts Services Group It was confirmed in November as part of the game’s development – now that the game is out, you can see how much influence the team had on the final product.
Callisto Protocol developed by the new studio amazing distance game and by crafton, received the Digital Foundry treatment this week, and the results are evident; the PS5 version of the game far exceeds the Xbox Series X/S version. The game has had some patches, pre-releases, but from what we’ve seen today (launch day), there’s a significant difference in performance between the console versions of the game.
Watch the video below to see what we mean:
But why is there such a difference? Well, Visual Arts’ 150 employees might have something to do with that — after all, they’re more experienced developing games for PlayStation hardware than anything else. The credits image (posted first on ResetEra, then verified by iGamesNews) states that around 150 employees from in-house Sony studios helped develop it.
Visual Arts Services Group – recently made headlines for Sony’s search for a new studio to develop “high profile projects” […] Teaming up with Naughty Dog” – has been a Sony hero over the past few years. Credits to the Uncharted series and the Spider-Man games illustrate how well the team has done when it’s at full strength (although it’s worth noting that Sony let Naughty Dog take over “The Last Survivor Part 1, as it felt the visual art wasn’t standard enough for the project).
But it’s an interesting development for Sony to have a team working on Callisto Protocol; after all, it’s not a first-party game. Sony has a marketing deal for the Callisto Protocol (hence: all the ads you see have the PlayStation branding) so it makes sense that platform holders would want Dead Space’s spiritual successor to do well. Interestingly, better performance and optimizations on PS5 are the result.
What makes this whole mess even more interesting, according to some players, is that the game is barely playable on PC.
There’s been a lot of grudges between PlayStation and Xbox lately–let’s hope this new difference between console games doesn’t show up in the future.
