The regular GameStar Tech readers among you already know that I love smartphones with physical keyboards. The big catch is that they have been virtually extinct for years.
That’s why I still use my Blackberry Key 2, as I knew I would two years ago – even though it feels like it’s getting slower every day and the keyboard is now causing problems. You can find out more about this in the article My beloved cell phone is letting me down twice
.
Now possible rescue is approaching, but not in the form of a new cell phone and with a big catch for me. More precisely, it’s about the newly introduced one Clicks
-Case with physical keyboard:
The big catch
My biggest problem with the cell phone case: So far it has only been announced for the iPhone. The exact release plan for the three currently planned variants will follow soon.
- iPhone 14 Pro: Shipping February 1st for $139
- iPhone 15 Pro: Shipping mid-March for $139
- iPhone 15 Pro Max: Shipping in Spring for $159
Whether an Android version will ever come is anyone’s guess.
Ultimately, it will probably depend on the success of the iPhone variant. This is made clear by both official FAQ to the Clicks case as well as the Looking for another model?
-Survey on the Shop page. It also offers the option to answer I don’t use an iPhone
.
Since I have been a loyal Android user for over ten years, I now, on the one hand, completely selfishly appeal to all iPhone owners among you to buy the (admittedly expensive) Clicks case.
On the other hand, this gadget actually makes me think about trying my luck with an iPhone for the first time. At least I haven’t come across a comparable alternative for Android devices yet – please let me know in the comments if you know of one.
You can find out what happens when you switch from iPhone to Android for the first time here:
There are several reasons for switching to the iPhone
The case could be the stumbling block that makes me switch to the iPhone. But there are even more aspects that speak for this in my case.
For me, my first priority is journalistic curiosity as a tech author. Since we’ve been reporting more and more about smartphones since GameStar Tech started 18 months ago, it makes professional sense for me not to just stick with my old Android bars.
In addition, my Blackberry is now causing problems in terms of both hardware and software and is now clearly outdated. That’s why, despite all my (irrational) resistance, buying a new cell phone can definitely be considered advisable.
A current Android device would serve this purpose exactly, especially since there are many good providers, as our video on the best cell phones of 2023 shows below. But why not take the opportunity and use the Clicks case as an opportunity to try it with an iPhone?

What would also be desirable for the Clicks case in addition to a more moderate price: a variant with a QWERTY layout. But here, as in the case of the Android variant, it only comes if there is enough demand.
I hope all the more that the Clicks case has not only aroused interest in me, even if it clearly makes the smartphone larger and not quite the same as one however
new Blackberry is. But it will probably never happen again.
What do you think about it? Is this a cell phone gadget you would buy if the price is right and your model is supported? Or can you safely do without a physical keyboard with backlighting on your smartphone? Feel free to write it in the comments!
