If Avira Antivirus can no longer be opened, this could have various causes. We’ll tell you what you can do in this case.
The Avira antivirus program is closely linked to the Windows 10 and Windows 11 operating systems to provide you with the best possible protection. If you cannot open Avira Antivirus, usually only the user interface of the program is affected. Your protection should still exist.
Like other antivirus suites, Avira also uses several independent processes to monitor your computer. This also includes a system service that is loaded before the user logs on. The user interface is only the part with which you can control Avira and change individual settings and start manual scans.
Antivirus-Software
Antivirus software protects computer users from threats in the form of Trojans, malware, etc. Depending on the range of functions, it is freeware or offers that require the purchase of an annual license.
The user interface of the software is therefore still important for active use and adjustment of Avira. If Avira Antivirus does not start, there are many possible reasons for this. In addition to errors in the program, Windows can also be responsible for this. If the worst comes to the worst, you should use the following tips to get Avira Antivirus running again.
End and restart Avira processes
-
1
Open the task manager with the key combination “Windows + superscript + ESC” and click on “More details” at the bottom left.
-
2
In the process list, select and end the processes “Avira (32-bit)” and “Avira Security (32-bit)” one after the other with the button at the bottom right. You can then restart Avira via the start menu. If the Avira interface still does not load, you should try restarting your computer.
The Avira installer comes with a repair option that you can use to automatically fix many antivirus software problems.
If Avira still cannot be opened after the automatic repair, you should carry out a complete new installation and first completely remove old program components in the system.
If Avira continues to cause problems, you can instead use Microsoft Defender, which is part of Windows, as virus protection, which according to comparative tests is significantly better than its reputation. If you prefer another external antivirus software, you can find good alternatives such as AVG Free Antivirus or Avast Free Antivirus in our software catalogue.
