A new search bar has appeared in the recent preview version of Windows 11, placed in the middle of the Windows desktop. The new operating system from Microsoft already has a search bar that you can use from the taskbar. Let’s take a look at what the new bar is all about and what it could mean for Windows 11.
Microsoft explains the new search bar in one Blog-Post. The new feature is currently only available for some participants in the Insider program. With the search bar in the middle of the screen, you can quickly search the web or type in a URL to go directly to the page you need from your desktop.
The search bar in the taskbar, on the other hand, primarily searches for apps, files and documents on your stationary computer. You can use it to enter a search term for the web, but it’s a bit more cumbersome. The new search bar is designed to make the transition from desktop to browser smoother.
How well do you know Windows 11 and Co.?
10 terms that only real professionals know
According to Microsoft, the new search bar is a first attempt. The blog post states: Some Insiders will see one of these conceptual features as we begin making lightweight interactive content available on the Windows desktop.
With these lightweight interactive content
are meant in desktop widgets. Until now, Windows 11 has relegated the widgets to a separate panel that you can access from the taskbar. Here you can see information such as the weather, Bundesliga results, share prices and news. But interaction is hardly possible. All you can do is click on a tile, which will then take you to a webpage.
If the web search bar is well received by testers, it could make it to the public release of Windows 11 and open the doors for more interactive desktop widgets.
Interactive desktop widgets are basically small versions of apps or programs that allow quick access to certain functions directly from the desktop.
More updates and innovations
In addition to the widgets in the form of the web search engine, Microsoft is still working on other updates and functions. Above all, Microsoft wants to bring all sorts of new features to the operating system with the 22H2 function update. In addition, the latest operating system should be ready for hybrid work in the cloud with further updates.
What do you think of the search bar and interactive desktop widgets in general? Would it make your Windows 11 experience more enjoyable, or is it an unnecessary feature? Please let us know.
