  • In general, Windows 11 Home and Pro only differ in details, not in areas such as the user interface.
  • Windows 11 Pro is particularly suitable for use in companies or in security-relevant areas.
  • As a normal consumer, you will be adequately supplied with the cheaper Home version.

Done: The brand new PC is finally built after a few hours of tinkering. The last thing you need now is a Windows license to be able to use the device with the latest Microsoft operating system. But here you are faced with a choice: Windows 11 Home or Windows 11 Pro? We clarify which operating system is the best choice for you and what the differences are

Windows 11 Home vs. Pro: Only minor differences for average users

A look at Microsoft’s website reveals the actual differences between Windows 11 Home and Pro. Above all, the price: while a Windows 11 Home license costs 145 dollars from Microsoft, the Pro version costs 259 dollars per license. However, this big difference in price does not result from the fact that Windows 11 Home and Pro are completely different operating systems.

Because at first glance and for the eye of an average consumer, there are no major differences between Windows 11 Home and Pro in daily use. The user interface is exactly the same, the system is built the same and there are no differences in the support for programs.

More security and features for businesses with Windows 11 Pro

The differences between the two versions only become apparent when you look at the details. The Pro version supports BitLocker, an encryption software that automatically protects the data on the device in the event of loss or theft. The so-called “Windows Information Protection” (WIP) is also a feature that is only available to Windows 11 Pro users.

Also interesting…

Windows 11 Pro also supports up to 2 TB of RAM and 128 CPU cores, while Windows 11 Home “only” has 128 GB of RAM and 64 CPU cores. Certain features for business administration and IT admins, such as group policies and Active Directory, are only available on Windows 11 Pro.

Furthermore, Windows 11 Home does not support Hyper-V virtualization, thanks to which virtual environments can be created on Windows 11 Pro. But this is more of a feature that only advanced users have to resort to. In summary, it can be said that regular consumers can easily rely on Windows 11 Home without having to worry about missing features, also due to the large price difference.
