Just recently, a message from CD Projekt disappointed many fans of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077: The next-gen upgrades will be delayed and both will no longer appear in 2021, as originally planned. But there is now exciting news: A new studio is to take over a spin-off.
What is known about the new project?
Who is the new studio? The Molasses Flood has released several games, including the (pretty good!) Survival adventure game The Flame in the Flood. Or the survival structure Drake Hollow, which has 80 percent positive reviews on Steam.
On Twitter, the American studio is enthusiastic about the new challenge:

Hello folks! We have some pretty exciting news. The Molasses Flood joins CD project!
What does that mean? We’re allowed to build a completely new game based on an existing IP from CD Projekt, we can hire a lot of new people and we can continue to develop games (…).
We’ll stay The Molasses Flood, even if we’ll add “A CD Project Studio” more often in the future. While we spoke to CD Projekt, they made it clear that they don’t just want to take over us, but want to preserve us and our own culture.
We’d love to talk about what we’re working on, but we’ll have to wait a while. (…)
What is it about? Witcher or Cyberpunk?
Actually, the new project can only be a spin-off to The Witcher or Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt will hardly hand over the management of a sequel or an extension to a small and young studio like Molasses – besides, there is specifically talk of a completely new game. Unfortunately, we have little else to suggest – so we can only make assumptions at this point.
What are the advantages of The Witcher? A couple of successful spin-offs have already grown up in the dark fantasy universe, for example Gwent or Thronebreaker. A The Witcher 4 could still be a few years away, but the brand recently did through the successful Netflix series won new fans. In theory, a title could fit exactly into the release gap.
What are the advantages of Cyberpunk 2077? The newer IP of CD Projekt could urgently need good news after the standalone multiplayer has been crushed and the announced expansions are still a long time coming. There would be enough points of contact for a spin-off, for example areas other than Night City could be the focus or a time other than 2077 could be explored. The pen & paper universe offers an infinite number of templates.

Fascinating details & funny Easter eggs in Cyberpunk 2077
What do the job descriptions reveal? Short answer: not much. We are looking for employees in almost all areas, from gameplay to story to design. At least it can be seen from the offers that there should be a story with a lot of side missions, that the game will be based on Unreal Engine 4 and that a console version is also planned.
What happens at CD Projekt?
The next-gen upgrades for The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 are currently in progress, and the first expansion for the history of V and Night City is currently being developed. After the mixed launch, the studio has repositioned itself and is keeping a low profile with concrete announcements. You want to work on several AAA titles at the same time in the future.
