Artificial intelligence has now found its way into many areas of life, and this will soon include children’s toys. As part of CES 2024, Carrera presented its first AI-supported racetrack. It’s called the Carrera Hybrid and it doesn’t have the typical rails at all, as the official trailer shows.
Instead, the cars drive on smooth sections of track and can move freely from left to right. They do not drive automatically, but are controlled by you using a free app that will appear in both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. You steer using the touchscreen or by tilting your cell phone.
The design of the app is based on a typical racing cockpit. In order not to fly out of the curve, you can also adjust the speed, according to the trailer. On the official website Carrera also reveals that you can choose between a beginner and an expert mode when controlling.
Release period and number of players
In the trailer you can see how the players scan the race track with the app. Since you can also see how the vehicles automatically assume their starting position on the track, AI technology could be used here, among other things. Up to 30 drivers can compete in a race with Carrera Hybrid, either on or off the track. You can also drive the cars over normal ground.
The Carrera Hybrid Set is available in two variants, contains two vehicles, four straight race track sections and ten curves. It is scheduled to be released in the fourth quarter of this year. But you have to do without the characteristic looping from before with this set. But don’t worry, because the manufacturer promises that more Carrera Hybrid products will follow. This could include vehicles and additional parts of the route.
