Another year has passed since the last major Stellaris expansion. And developer Paradox is apparently not finished with the 4X strategy game even after six years full of innovations. Now that proves it Announcing the Overlord DLC.
The new addon for Stellaris gives you mechanics to rule your galaxy as Emperor, control your vassals like puppets or even become the little lamp on the big chandelier yourself. Because the gameplay as a submissive vassal of a powerful AI emperor should also be a valid option.
This makes Stellaris even more complex than it has already been in recent years with Federations and Nemesis:

stick or carrot
You can vassals in the Overlord DLC, put them under gag contracts and assign them specialized tasks to pursue your greater goals. However, as a benevolent player, you may also play the good Samaritan by designing a kind of Irish empire that will bring peace and prosperity to all species.
The mechanics are complemented by new megastructures, designed to increase your influence and reach to truly take the entire galaxy under your caring wing. Or you can become a vassal yourself and let yourself be ruled, because this option is also intended to deepen Overlord. It has not yet been communicated exactly how all this will take shape and what the gigantic buildings will do in detail.
Also a Release date is still missing. The hope: So far, Stellaris has often received its addons shortly after the announcement. Time will tell if that also applies to Overlord. After all, one already exists Steam page with the note Coming soon

Stellaris’ journey to becoming a 4X heavyweight
4X expert Paradox gained notoriety among global strategists with the game series Europa Universalis and Hearts of Iron. The advance into space with Stellaris was accompanied by a lot of criticism for the 2016 release, since the package was meager in terms of content and unsatisfactorily balanced.
But that has now changed, even if the release of a number of paid DLCs, species packages and complex extensions has caused criticism. After all, the Ultimate Bundle with all addons costs an impressive 200 dollars. At least there were always free updates with many improvements on top of that.
All in all, Stellaris is today an immensely complex 4X strategy game that belongs to the best that the genre has to offer. Our video shows you why and to what extent:
