Since 1996, Pokemon has been an almost idyllic world where “monsters” can be caught and trained effortlessly. Sure, according to Reddit user TheFoochy, “organized crime syndicates trying to start Armageddon” caused chaos, but Team Rocket is the least amount of trouble you’ll have here.
As a teenager out into the wild with a Pokemon, you can already live rent-free. In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, you only have to go to school for a few days to be free to roam, and even then, you don’t have to go back very often. With no rent to pay and no school to attend, you’re already off to a head start.
Thankfully, the world of Pokemon hasn’t swelled in the past two decades either. Reddit user TheJesterofHyrule pointed out that since 1996, Pokeballs have remained low at 200 Pokedollars. With that in mind, it’s also worth noting that Pokemon offer free healthcare, free gyms, habitable habitats for “monsters,” free education, no poverty, and more.
Also, crime seems to be pretty low, too, considering you’re busy tending to whatever evil syndicate’s star team is in your chosen game feature. I mean, every cop you see has time to stop and fight, so crime won’t be a huge problem for Pokemon as a whole.
Let me repeat: since 1996, nothing has changed. In Pokémon, inflation doesn’t exist, and social unrest is a minor matter, usually attributed to a bunch of meddling kids. It’s the only similarity our society has to Pokemon, and even then, it’s usually sorted out before any riots start.
So it should come as no surprise when I share that I spent 30 hours playing Pokemon Scarlet and Violet this weekend. If you ignore the fact that gaming is riddled with performance issues, it’s a near-perfect escape from the world we live in; a society where the only thing that matters is learning from the best, like never before.
That said, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet emphasize the sandwich, and suspect wild Pokemon are making the ingredients. This isn’t a problem for Paldean society now, but who knows, maybe our next enemies will bear a striking resemblance to PETA.
