Helldivers 2’s much-anticipated patch 1.001.100 was released yesterday, and it includes enough enhancements and tweaks that you’ve probably read the patch notes to your heart’s content. So far, many players have flocked to try the game, and Arrowhead has issued a major new order to give them something to do besides rant about their love for the changes.

If you missed yesterday’s patch, or are just getting back into the game after putting it down for a while, it’s well worth checking out our overview of its features, including what Arrowhead previously announced.

So what are the early results of Arrowhead’s big move as part of the game’s ongoing plan to restore the game experience? As players naturally come back to check out the changes, there has been a big increase in player numbers. According to SteamDB, the current 24-hour Steam peak is just over 68,000, which is higher than the recent average, which is around 20,000 to 25,000.

Meanwhile, Reddit was flooded with posts praising the patch in both meme and non-meme form, with some players even saying “this is literally the best patch ever” and “the game is now both fun and hard!”

“So far, the balance patch has achieved what most thought was impossible,” the author of the previous post wrote. “Gone is that feeling of being underpowered when facing off against overpowered foes. Now it’s just 4 meatbags unleashing pure chaos on the enemy. Relentless. Swarms of enemies. I was worried that some of the buffs would trivialize the game, like railguns and small arms now do as much damage as heavy weapons, but the redesign of enemy health pools keeps it genuinely challenging.”

“I think it’s important for the community to show some gratitude after the rollercoaster of emotions the developers have been through. A lot of the issues I personally asked for to be fixed have been fixed,” wrote another.

At the same time as all this praise and the cult of thermite grenades began to emerge, Arrowhead also released a new MO.

“Super Earth High Command has ordered an assessment of the readiness of the Helldivers following a recent fleet-wide capability adjustment,” wrote community manager Baskinto. To conduct this assessment, the Helldivers have been ordered to engage in open warfare on the Automata and Terminal Star lines with the goal of increasing the total number of planets within the Super Earth Federation.

“For this order to succeed, the total number of planets liberated during the order must exceed the total number of planets captured by the enemy. Which planets are prioritized will be determined by the strategic expertise of the Helldivers.”
