Yesterday Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty was released and on the PC the title for Team Ninja has been a hit – despite all the existing problems.
The release of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has apparently already paid off for Team Ninja, because on Steam the game set a new player record for the developer right on the day of release. This is all the more remarkable as there are also numerous PC problems here, which is why there is currently some review bombing going on.
The PC version is available via the Windows Store (also in PC Game Pass) and Steam – and on the Valve platform, according to SteamDB, 75,906 players were counted simultaneously in the title at the top. The action role-playing game also takes a place in the top 15 most played games on Steam. At the same time, Wo Long is currently the third best-selling game on Steam globally – just a spot behind the current hype Sons of the Forest and despite the fact that it is free for PC Game Pass subscribers.
If you take a closer look at the history of Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo on Steam, it becomes clear: Wo Long is already by far the most successful game from the studios there at launch. To date, the Nioh 2 Complete Edition has held the top position in terms of player numbers – with a comparatively low 41,325 players at the top. In a way, Wo Long pulverized this internal team ninja record.
Despite everything, not everything that glitters is gold, because the number of critics and negative reviews is growing. Above all, it is about the condition of the PC version, which – like some other PC titles in the recent past – leaves a lot to be desired. This title also struggles with crashes, wrong resolutions, image stuttering, low frame rates despite appropriate hardware and white flashes on the screen. And the DLSS support that was actually promised for the start is not yet there and should only be delivered in a future patch. It remains to be hoped that improvements will be made quickly overall.
