Wolfenstein: The New Order for free at GameStar Plus

free, Gamestar, Order, Wolfenstein

Oh yes, that brings back memories. When War Machine announced Wolfenstein: The New Order, I had to scratch my head and wonder: “A decent game is supposed to be made from such an ancient original?” But the developers have conjured up a real shooter gem that is still a lot of fun today – a few years later.

Unlike me back then, you don’t need to import a console version from a neighboring country to be able to experience the game uncut. Because now the uncut version including symbolism are sold freely and that is exactly what we have chosen for you this month as the Plus full version. There is one catch, however: the uncut version does not contain any Europe voice-over, as back then it was only included in the censored Europe version. If you can overlook this or have a good enough command of English, you will be treated to a real fireworks display of action.

In the 15-hour campaign, you play as BJ Blazcovicz in an alternate 1960 and take on the omnipresent and overpowering Death’s Head regime. You have a varied arsenal of weapons at your disposal, which can be further improved with upgrades or even expanded with new functions. If one weapon isn’t enough firepower for you, you can just grab a second one in your other hand and fire on all cylinders.

You should always keep moving, because many of the objects behind which you can take cover are destructible. Depending on the situation, however, it is better to proceed stealthily. If you are discovered by a commander, he will raise the alarm and you will have a real problem. If, on the other hand, you kill him quietly and unnoticed with your knife or silencer, you will have secrets marked on your map. These will not only help you in the short term, but can even improve your character permanently.

Aside from the firefights, you get beautifully staged cutscenes with well-written characters that you will either grow to love or love to hate. The characters may be a bit exaggerated at times, but they fit into the well-written storyline. It doesn’t have anything earth-shatteringly new to tell you, but it does offer a fascinating thread running through the game.

From now on, all Plus members can collect their key until 23:59 on September 30th and use it until October 3rd for Wolfenstein: The New Order Redeem at Gamesplanet.
