Now that we’re all in the midst of a Deadpool/Wolverine movie frenzy, it’s worth taking a look at what’s happening with the characters in the comics. In fact, it’s a good idea because Logan just got back a very old superpower… so old that many fans didn’t even know it existed.
The comic strips Wolverine: Deep Cut #2 Chris Claremont and Edgar Salazar’s The Dark Knight Rises sees Wolverine infiltrate one of Mister Sinister’s lairs to find out what the hell he’s up to against mutants. It appears to be a project to clone and kill mutants. During the operation he encounters several guards and Michael Baer, aka Blockbuster, but he doesn’t seem to care.
Logan himself explains why he is confident that no camera or alarm will detect him, much less that anyone will remember he was there. His Weapon X skills and military experience help, but the real reason dates back to the comics. Uncanny X-Men #227 from 1987.
Wolverine is technically dead. Anyone who sees him quickly forgets about him and “for the machines, I’m just not there,” he says in the comics. What the hell happened in 1987 that this old ability is being used in 2024? As the via ScreenRantthen what is known as The Fall of the Mutants took place.
The mutants’ heroism impressed Roma, daughter of Merlyn and guardians of the land in Otherworld, and she brought them back to life under the conditions described by Logan in the new comic’s panels. Marvel didn’t take long to forget this plot, but Claremont has decided to revive it for this adventure with Wolverine.
