During a press roundtable following the Warcraft 30th Anniversary event, World of Warcraft game director Ion Hazzikostas said that player housing is “the most ambitious feature in the World of Warcraft expansion.”
In response to media questions, Hatzikostas said: “I would say this is our most ambitious feature in the World of Warcraft expansion. Part of why it took so long to launch it is that we knew that we Can’t really be reached over the phone Even if we were to build on this in the future, I think everything we do has to be great, especially something in the MMO genre that has so much expectation and so much history that needs to be so great. Excellent and will be the basis for further development and growth day after day.”

Before this question, we asked why the development team went from its previous stance against implementing player housing to its new embrace of the feature. Hazzikostas’ response sheds further light on why the feature is being released now.
“Player housing is something the team has thought about and discussed for a long time. It’s something the community has been asking for and wondering about for a long time, and we haven’t forgotten that. When you say it hasn’t been in the past, there’s nothing philosophical about it. “We don’t feel like it’s a bad idea or that it won’t improve the social ecosystem of MMOs.”
“Quite frankly, I think we’re looking at how we can make it a reality and bring it to the level of quality that our players expect and deserve. That includes our resources, customization options, and the underlying technology required to make it truly integrated into the game “In the past, a lot of this didn’t exist because we had to choose between doing housing or everything else in the expansion, and everything else would win out.”
This is something we’ve been working on in the background for years. We know this will take multiple expansion development cycles to complete, and we’re excited to finally bring it to players with Midnight. We’ll have more details to share about exactly how it will work, what it is, what it isn’t, and where it’s heading in the coming year. But really, we wanted to pull back the curtain a little bit and give players a peak look at what’s to come.
“Maybe a little selfishly, to spark a conversation in the community about housing, about what they want and what they don’t want. That way, we can check our gut and make sure we’re on the right track as we move forward.”
Hazzikostas said more updates are expected in 2025 via blog posts and similar official Blizzard platforms. So we can only wait for more news!
