There's often a lot going on in role-playing games that's easy to overlook, but to one Avowed developer, this is the “core” of the genre.

There's an obsession with completionism in video games these days, especially with trophies and achievements helping to justify spending countless hours playing everything a game has to offer. However, a lot of players have missed out on a lot in the past, and for Berto Ritger, regional director and senior regional designer at Obsidian Entertainment, that's pretty much the whole point of role-playing games. In an interview with GamesRadar about the upcoming Avowed, Ritger said that he believes that “at the core of what makes RPGs special is the content that's easy to miss, which honestly makes the experience more personal.” ”

Ritger believes having all of these options in an RPG helps discuss them because not everyone will have the same experience. “If you say to someone, 'Oh, I found this thing under the pier. There's a little secret under the east side of the pier that you can find. You can also climb up to the top and there's something down there. But if you Discovering that and your friends not discovering it, they discover other things, and it creates really interesting conversations about the game.”

Of course, that doesn't mean Obsidian still doesn't want you to see something specific, Ritger explains, “We want to bring your attention, things we want you to engage with. The beacon is very high, and so everyone will see one after another.” Something tall and big, so we wanted to support that as well, so you can jump into the sea and grab your attention in that way.”

Personally, I miss the days when we didn't know everything we needed to know about the game and it was really fun to talk to friends about things you've seen but they haven't, so maybe if you're planning on picking up Avowed , take the road less traveled and find some cool stuff.
