Casual comic book movie watchers, stay calm, because DC is working on a special opening for the Elseworlds movie to make it clear what is canon and what isn't.

Since DC has chosen to establish a primarily canon universe, with the option to feature films that have nothing to do with other worlds, it's understandable that some viewers might be a little unsure of what is and isn't canon. You can't expect everyone to be a nerd like us and stay up to date on what's going on in the DCU. Plus, eventually the DCU may separate its own Batman from Robert Pattinson's Batman, which I'm sure will make at least a few people say “Hey what happened to Edward?” Luckily for those people , DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn made it clear that the Elseworlds movie will have its own unique opening.

In response to a question from a fan on Threads, he asked why shows like Harley Quinn and Penguin don't use the DC Studios logo now, if they are technically DC Studios shows now. “All DC television and film projects are now under DC Studios,” Gunn explained. “Because Harley Quinn was developed so much earlier than us, we felt it was unfair to put DC Studio's promotion there. On Penguin, we had a very small input into the development, So we have a different DC Studio animation at the end.” Gunn then noted that they are “currently working on the opening of DC Studios Elseworlds,” which means that's what you'll be seeing once the movie begins (at least in the future).

Presumably the first project to use this new beginning will be the upcoming Batman: Part II, although it has now been delayed for a second time to 2027. Luckily, the DCU will have some actual projects to help tide us over. We wait, as does Gunn's Superman movie, which hits theaters on July 11.
