Last Friday we learned about the WWE 2K21 internal cancellation. The annual wrestling franchise will skip a year for the first time in its history, as confirmed by the CFO of the WWE itself.
The reason seems to be that WWE 2K20 It came out quite broken, which has led to loud complaints from the entire community. So 2K Games has decided extend development time for the next installment
To make up for the absence of the main saga this year, the company has announced WWE 2K Battlegrounds, a crazy spin-off whose first trailer you can see up here.
Picking up the witness of NBA 2K Playgrounds (in fact developed by the same studio, Saber Interactive), this new title offers a much more arcade and light-hearted vision from the world of wrestling. Even crocodiles and everything appear in the trailer. 2K defines it as a simple and fun experience that will come out in the fall of this year.
This confirms the leak perpetrated by Justin Leeper. Days before WWE announced the cancellation of WWE 2K21, this ex-developer of the franchise had already announced it in a video from his personal channel, while also claiming there would be another lighter installment this year to make up for it. That has turned out to be WWE 2K Playgrounds.
