X4: Tides of Greed: Third major expansion coming in 2022

Egosoft continues to work on the space epic X4: Foundations, originally published in November 2018. The third big add-on has now been announced with “Tides of Greed”.

Egosoft wants to make the third expansion “Tides of Greed” available for the long-term space simulation in the first quarter of 2022. The release is planned for Windows and Linux computers both on Steam and via GOG.com.

In the add-on you get to deal with new factions, which are previously unknown and lawless pirates and looters. These call into question the social order and justice in the universe of the space epic.

You will end up in new sectors and regions, where you will also meet new ships and stations. The focus is also on the mystery of various star phenomena and it will be your task to find out about the mysterious manipulators.

The first newly introduced ships include the Erlkönig and Astrid, which are officially described as follows:

• The Erlkönig is a terrifying pirate ship with an experimental and unusual source of energy. It was developed over many years by the storm surge strings with great loss of resources and life in a desperate attempt to capitalize on the stellar phenomena in the greed system. In X4: Tides of Greed, learn more about these mysterious events as you equip the Erlkönig with research and resources acquired during your adventure.
• The Astrid, an incredibly splendid and luxurious yacht, exudes wealth and importance. Her owner is the CEO of the Northriver Company, Brantlee Northriver, and she is rumored to be the fastest ship in the galaxy. With its sleek design, the Astrid is a ship like you’ve never seen in the X-Universe. What secrets does it hide?

Another important new feature is the recovery of shipwrecks. Wrecks can either be towed away using one of the new tugs or dismantled on the spot using a deconstruction ship to recycle resources.

The add-on is also accompanied by the free update to version 5.00, which brings a number of new large ships, new interior areas and support for AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSC).
