Slated for PS5 only when it releases in 2023, Final Fantasy 16 clarifies information that Xbox Series and PC gamers should greatly benefit from.
Final Fantasy 16 release date is fast approaching. But before that, a point about PS5 exclusivity.
Final Fantasy 16: The duration of the excluded PS5 revealed
We already knew that Final Fantasy 16 would only be a temporary PS5 exclusive, but until now its duration was unknown. That has just changed with a new PlayStation ad that promotes the virtues of the console and its controller with big games like God of War Ragnarok, The Last of Us Part 1, FIFA 23 or FF16.
The segment, attributed to JRPG by Square Enix, states:
Final Fantasy 16 is expected in summer 2023. It’s exclusive to PS5 for six months.
This means that after six months, the game may release on PC, the only other platform that has been confirmed at this time. But all is not lost and this end of exclusivity could also affect the Xbox series. Unless there is a specific clause between PlayStation and the Japanese publisher, nothing a priori prohibits the release of FF16 on Xbox Series X | S until 2023.
Will this inevitably be the case? No, and FF7 Remake is here to confirm that. Despite the expiration of the exclusive period, Square Enix still hasn’t ported its title to the Xbox series and could therefore reproduce the same pattern with Final Fantasy 16.
