Last night was a big one for PlayStation, huh? Metal Gear, more Metal Gear, the home cyberpunk sequel Ghostrunner 2, a release date for Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Alan Wake 2’s insane depravity, and the exciting Dragon’s Dogma 2’s huge, unexpected look.
Given that this was a big reveal from Sony (and its first since 2021), you’d be tempted to think that all of these games would be PlayStation exclusives, or at least come to PS5 with special features or otherwise. original. Alas, this is not the case.
as pointed out in a cheeky tweet Flying out of the Xbox social platform as soon as the showcase is over, the 12 games included in the showcase will land on the Xbox platform, as well as PlayStation or PC.
These games are:
- Dragon’s Dogma 2, with no release date. Stop glancing at your pieces and engage in battle.
- marathon, with no release date. Bungie has finally emerged from the Salt Mine of Destiny.
- Metal Gear Delta: Snake Eater, with no release date. The Boss is back with a 4K texture pack.
- Immortal Avim, due in July. Alex thinks it’s pretty good, and looks like a cross between CoD, Doom, and Doctor Strange.
- Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the deadline is October 12. If you’d like to read more about the game’s stunning soundtrack, I wrote a bit about the care and love that went into making it in a column for The Guardian.
- Alan Wake 2, will expire on October 17. The sequel to one of the best horror games of all time.
- tear down, to be launched in 2023. Voxel based destruction chaos.
- Talos Principle 2, which will be released in 2023. The long awaited sequel to 2014’s philosophical puzzler.
- brave squire, to be launched in 2023. A colorful platformer that lets you go from 3D platform jumping to top-down dungeon crawling.
- ghost walker 2, to be launched in 2023. See the link above for details.
- neva river, with a target release date of 2024. The team that brought you Gris tells the story of a young woman and her lifelong bond with a magnificent wolf pup as they embark on adventures in a world of swift death. Prepare to cry.
- Cat Quest: Purribean Pirates2024. Play as a bravado privateer in this 2.5D open world action RPG set in a fantasy pirate-themed world.
Perhaps the most interesting cross-platform game is Marathon – a new PvP escape shooter from Bungie. Back in early 2022, we learned that Sony would acquire Bungie for a whopping $3.6 billion. Now, Maker of Destiny is part of the PlayStation Studios family… and is launching its next game on the Xbox. It’s a curious thing, and as the dust settles, I’m eager to learn more.
Of course, there are still some “pure” PlayStation exclusives: Final Fantasy 16 and Spider-Man 2 are the most notable (though, you never know, the blockbuster Square Enix RPG could be coming to Xbox at some point consoles. Never say never, etc.).
